One of Chuy’s favorite things to chew on are empty water bottles! I suppose he loves the sound. I however find it extremely annoying!!! BUT, if he loves it, then I guess it’s ok (lol).
Chewing on water bottles can be a bit dangerous because your dog can end up swallowing plastic. Yuck! BUT, if you cover them, they still get the (annoying) crinkling sound without swallowing plastic.
Those water bottle covers that the pet stores sell can be a little on the pricey side. Who needs to spend that, when you can easily make this at home for FREE?!
Supplies You Need
- Old Sweater or Old Sock
- Empty water bottle (remove label and cap/ring)
- Pair of Scissors
Time Needed
- 30 minutes or less
Instructions
These instructions are based on the Water Bottle Crinkle toy that I created in this picture. If you want to learn more, keep reading!
Step 1
Place the water bottle inside of sweater or sock.
Step 2
Cut the arm, with the bottle still inside, off of the sweater. Leave enough fabric so that you can tie the ends in step 3.
Step 3
Tie a knot at each end of the sweater. This will keep your bottle tightly secured inside of the sweater.
Step 4
Cut strips on each end of the knots. You will want to make these long enough to tie knots in step 5.
Step 5
This step is to provide your doggie with extra chewing action! Tie knots on the strips you just cut, so they have some “knots” to chew on!
Once everything is done, your DIY Water Bottle Crinkle Dog Toy should look something like this:
And, as always Chuy has to test everything out. It was too funny. He was stalking me the whole time I was making it. Then, when I was finally done, his lips were literally shaking he was so excited!!!

I had this page saved for a long time and yesterday I decided to take a look at it again. Why didn’t I do it before?! It was a breeze to make and my dog loves it much more than she likes her other, expensive toys. She goes around the house with it like it’s her prey or something, so cute. Thank you so much for this, Mimi and Chuy!

My daughter is having her 9th birthday party this weekend and I put on the evite that my daughter is supporting the Humane Society and they needed donations, also that we would have a dog-toy-making-station at the party. I saw your blog and breathed a sigh of relief, I had no idea what I was gonna do 🙂 Thanks for awesome idea!!! I’m sure it will be a big hit.
