Today, February 20th is National Love Your Pet Day. Its so fitting considering that Valentines Day was just last week.
During Valentines Day, I always hear people say, I dont need a made up holiday to love my significant other. We show each other love all year long.
Ahhh! That drives me nuts. Yes, my husband and I love each other all year and do things for each other throughout the year. BUT, it is nice to have a day to remind us of that. Sometimes as humans we get so caught up in life that we forget to show love and appreciation for people we care about. Thats one of the reasons I love holidays. I also feel like once you stop celebrating holidays, what makes any day special? We need those special days as reminders to stop and celebrate.
The same is true for National Love Your Pet day. Obviously, I love Chuy 24/7 and do things all the time to show my love for him. But its nice to have a day called out to remind ourselves to take a minute to show our pets some extra love and attention. They deserve it!
Im celebrating on the blog by sharing my top ten reasons why I love Chuy so much.
1. Chuy Loves Me Unconditionally
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. This is so true. Dogs are the ultimate teachers of unconditional love. Chuy doesnt care what I look like. He doesnt care if I gained 50 lbs. He doesnt care if I screwed something up at work. He doesnt care if Im dressed to the nines or looking like a hot mess. He loves me unconditionally.

The feeling is mutual. I would do anything in the world for Chuy. I will be with him to the very end. I will never discard him because hes old or sick or can no longer do fun things anymore. I love Chuy unconditionally.
2. Chuy Reminds Me to be in the Moment
Before Chuy I didnt live in the moment. I was always worried about the next big thing and didnt take the time to enjoy the here and now without all the distractions. Dogs dont have a concept of some day nor do they live life from a to-do list. They live for now. I love Chuy because hes taught me to unplug, put the phone down, and explore all that life has to offer. I love watching Chuy have the time of his life during a walk. A walk?! Its so simple but yet its everything to him. These days I enjoy the little things because I know they are the only things.
3. Chuy Inspires Me to Live an Irresistible Life
An Irresistible Life is the life you cant get enough of. Its a life that you love because you design it. Its not a life where you do all the things that society has pressured you into doing. Its the life where you become the best version of yourself. Chuy has inspired me to live like this in so many ways.

4. Chuy Never Gives Up
I love when Chuy is on a mission. You can see the gears turning in his head. He will try to do something multiple ways until he reaches his goal. Even if that goal is about getting scraps off the table or chasing after a ball. Im grateful to Chuy for teaching me to never give up on my dreams and my goals. If the first plan doesnt work, re-evaluate, and try again!

5. Chuy Teaches Us to Love Harder
I was afraid of getting a pet for many years. I know the pain of losing one after our first horse passed away. I vowed to never love another animal because I could at least control that hurt from ever coming into my life. If I stayed true to that, I would have never had all the love and happy memories from Chuy. Yea, its going to crush my heart in a million pieces one day but life is just better with Chuy. He has taught me to not be afraid to love and to love harder.

6. Chuy Knows How to Have Fun!
Life really isnt that serious. We only get one chance to make it irresistible. Chuy reminds me to laugh more and have FUN while doing it.
7. Chuy Says Patience Young Grasshopper
I still remember the first few months with Chuy as a puppy. OMG, he wore down my patience big time. While my husband was deployed, it was just little Chuy and I getting to know each other. I remember having a meltdown after a bad day at work. I came home, let Chuy out, and then all 2 pounds of him shredded up an entire package of toilet paper. In the next few weeks he would attempt to eat my wedding ring, my debit card . . .and thats just a short list. I learned to have more patience which is something I wasnt blessed with. That patience has come in handy in so many and most recently with my daughter, Catalina Rose.
8. Chuy is Proof that Sometimes Family Has 4 Paws
Chuy is not just a dog. He is family and he is my child. Sometimes dogs are just better than humans and have more to offer for all the reasons Ive listed in this post. When I say family, that includes all of the humans and animals under my roof. I wont apologize to anyone for that.
9. Chuy Lives for New Adventures
I love doing new things. I wasnt always that way though. Ever since Chuy came into my life Im always looking for new adventures so that we can do things together. Chuy has allowed me to explore things in my city that I never even knew existed. We have gone on so many dog friendly vacations and we even kayak together!
10. Chuy Changed My Life for the Better
Listen, it might sound corny that a Chihuahua could change your life but I mean it with every fiber of my being. I would not be sitting here typing this blog post from my home office with Chuy in my lap and my daughter next to my desk in her swing if it wasnt for Chuy. He inspired me to quit a job (of 7 years) that was killing me slowly and to pursue my real dream. If it wasnt for him I would have never started a pet blog nor would I have found BlogPaws where I now work full-time as the Director of Community Education. He inspired me to stop waiting for one day and to make that day happen. Chuy taught me that life is short and if you want something you better go out and make it happen because nobody else can do that for you. Chuy is an angel in a dogs body and I will forever be grateful for all that hes taught me and all that hes inspired.

I love this! Really relate to the unconditional love, teaching me to love harder, the focus when on a mission….reminding us to have fun and live in the moment – All so true. I loved my chihuahua so much that the only thing that made me feel better when she passed away was to write every memory I had of her. Actually turned it into a book – so maybe others who never had a dog before may be inspired to get one… I love Chuy and I love Chihuahuas!

Hi, Aimee!
I do have a Chihuahua as well. Let’s say I more or less adopted the little dog since it officially is still my neighbor’s dog. But she has been living with me for the last couple of months. At the beginning she was barking at me every time I came home and she was sitting outside on my neighbor’s porch. But over time she noticed that she has no reason barking at me. Now, living with me, she loves snuggling up to me. And instead off freeing her from her eye boogers, I make sure she stays ticks free :). She has such a big heart and it is a joy having her as a companionship
