Things have been really busy lately between prepping everything for the BlogPaws conference, working on my ecourse launch at Irresistible Icing, and you know taking care of a baby and Chuy. Sometimes I feel like I should just stay home on the weekends and try to get ahead of the current. The other part of me knows that while sometimes that’s necessary, it’s also a big waste of my life…and Chuy’s. I should be outside enjoying my days off with my family. That’s exactly what we did last weekend. I forgot just how much I NEED to be outdoors in order to be a better human.
I have Chuy to thank for reminding me of this. That’s what’s so awesome about dogs. They make our lives more irresistible. In fact, here’s 5 reasons why that’s true.
1. Find New Places To Explore
I get bored going to the same places over and over again. Ever since Chuy came into my life, I’m always on a mission to find somewhere new to explore. I’m shocked when I actually find something new locally as I feel like I’ve done everything there is to do around here! Last weekend we went to Riverview Farm Park in Newport News, VA. There was this awesome wooden deck/trail that led out to an overlook into the river with a beach all around it.
After we left there, we headed down the street to the Newport News Park which has tons of trails and overlooks. We have been there before but never with the baby and we had not brought Chuy there in years! The day was finished with a delicious dinner on the patio at Smithfield Station in Smithfield, VA.
2. Be More Active
I never used to go on so many walks and outdoors adventures like kayaking until Chuy. Getting more active has changed my life for the better. It helps me physically but also mentally. Something about being outdoors with nature helps to clear my head so I can conquer the to-do list.
3.Squash Depression and Anxiety
Getting outside with Chuy has helped me tremendously when it comes to depression and anxiety. There was a dark period in my life when I was afraid to even leave my own house. Having a dog forced me to get outside and go for walks. Going on walks helped me get out of my funk. So, it’s good for both Chuy and myself. Plus how can you be depressed with that face?!
4. Have More Fun!
I’d much rather be outdoors having fun with Chuy than sitting inside on the couch wasting my life away. Having a dog has led to having more fun. We’ve taken so many trips together from driving cross country to flying coast to coast. One of my favorite things I look forward to is traveling with Chuy to the BlogPaws conference. This year it’s in Myrtle Beach which is a quick drive for us!
5. Be in the Moment
Dogs only care about what’s happening right this very moment. They don’t have a to do list. They don’t deal with guilt. Chuy has taught me the importance of breaking the rules and living in the moment. When we’re out on an adventure that’s all that matter. Not social media, not emails, not projects…just us. When all is said and done isn’t that all that really matters anyways?
I took a pic this past weekend at the exact location where we took on as a puppy. It’s crazy how fast eight years has flown by. I can’t believe I’m even typing that. It’s a great reminder to BE in the moment because they fly by so quickly if you don’t slow down for a minute.
Get outdoors. Spend time with your pets. Turn off the notifications. Create an irresistible life!

My boys have taught me to LOVE play time! I can hardly wait every day to go home from work, sit down on the floor, and play squeaker with my boys! It’s so relaxing, yet so rewarding. They have taught me to just enjoy those little things in life. Dogs rule!!!!!
