It’s been a few months since I’ve posted here. OMG! We’ve been super busy and Chuy recently went through another IVDD episode which has left me little time (and energy) to blog. I wanted to share one of our adventures from last month to Belle Isle in Richmond, VA. It’s about a 2 hour drive from Virginia Beach. This was one of the first days that we finally had nice weather and it didn’t feel like an artic blast outside! We were all itching to get outdoors and wanted to try something new.
When we first arrived, we walked across the Potterfield Memorial Bridge. You can look over and see the rapids down below from the James River. There were a few brave people kayaking and kudos to them! You will never catch me kayaking where there are rapids!
We stopped at one of the lookouts so that we could take in the scenery and let Chuy and Catalina have a break. I’m pretty sure Chuy is meditating or just day-dreaming about food.
With that face, I have to guess that Chuy agrees that the rapids look pretty scary too!
There are some great views of the Richmond skyline from the bridge.
After that, we ventured over to Belle Isle. To access Belle Isle, you take a suspended pedestrian bridge that goes across the James River, underneath the highway. It can be a little unnerving to hear all of those cars over your head! You can also feel the bridge swaying at times.
Once you get to Belle Isle, there’s some walking trails and a few abandoned buildings. We didn’t make it around the loop because it was already getting late and we had the stroller. Plus, I could tell that Chuy was starting to get tired and we make sure to give him breaks because of his IVDD. Speaking of the stroller – it comes in handy during times like this because Chuy can hop in the bottom for a ride!
We didn’t get to see a ton of this side so that just gives us a reason to come back! As we were walking back to the car, the sun was starting to set. What a gorgeous view!
We are so sorry for the long pause in between posts. Now that the weather is warming up, I’m really looking forward to more adventures that we will share with you!
