Organizing all of Chuy’s things has been on my to-do list for awhile now. I started this past weekend with reorganizing our laundry room closet. My husband surprised me with all new shelves (we had only one), so now I get to decorate and organize it all. Woo Hoo!
I thought these jars would be totally irresistible to store Chuy’s treats and food. I’m obsessed with any DIY plastic animal projects right now and mason jars. This project combines both! PLUS, as with all my DIY projects, it doesn’t cost a lot of money, doesn’t take a long time, and it’s simple!
What is this DIY Pet Project For?
Use these DIY Pet Mason Jars to store:
- Pet Treats
- Pet Food
- Cotton Balls & Q-Tips
- Pet Supplies
- Get Creative an tell me what you would use them for in the comments!
Supplies You Need
- Plastic Animals
- Mason Jars
- Spray Paint (colors of your choice)
- Super Glue
- Duck Tape
Time Required
- 1 hour to complete the project. This is based on 3 jars.
- Allow 24-48 hours for everything to completely dry before storing food in the jars. it
How Much Does it Cost?
This project cost me $9 for the Mason Jars and the Plastic Animals that I purchased from A.C. Moore. I already had the other products but you can purchase spray paint anywhere for a low price. AND, this project doesn’t require much, so you’ll have tons left over for a future project! I also have tons of plastic animals left over….now, my mind is spinning with what I’m going to do with them!
Instructions
Learn how to make irresistible pet treat containers using mason jars and plastic animals just like the ones in the picture below! If you want to learn more, keep reading!
Step One
The first step is to prep these since they are going to be used for pet food storage. Wash both the jar and the lids with hot water and soap. Allow them to dry.
Step Two
You want to really make sure that NO spray paint is able to get inside of the jars, so that you don’t risk it getting in the food. Tape the inside of the lids as a precautionary measure. (Even though you will only spray paint them on one side.
Step Three
Glue the plastic animal to the top of the lid, positioning it where you want it. Hold for about 15 seconds.
Step Four
Head outside and start with one layer of spray paint and allow it to dry for 2-3 minutes. Apply additional layers as needed and allow them to dry.
Step Five
Once you’ve completed spray painting all of your lids with the animals attached, let them sit in a ventilated area for about 24-48 hours to let the fumes evaporate and to ensure that all paint dries BEFORE adding any treats or food.
Finished Product
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I’m storing these in my laundry closet along with the rest of Chuy’s things. The rest of closet is looking pretty bare and is a current work in progress, so I’m off to get some new baskets and organizers!
I hope you enjoyed this Irresistible Pets DIY project!

These are absolutely adorable! This technique could be used in so many ways. I wonder what plastic figures are available at Target. Stopping by from SITS.
