The past month has been an emotional roller coaster full of hospital visits, lack of sleep, and meals on the go. My grandmother passed away last week after one hell of a fight with cancer. I’m devastated because she has been a huge part of my life since I was born. She helped to watch me as a baby and moved in with my parents when I was five. I grew up thinking that everyone’s grandma lived with them! She will be deeply missed more than words can express.
I found myself really missing quality time with Chuy over the past few weeks as I would go directly from work to the hospital and get home with just enough time to get ready for bed. I haven’t had time to cook dinner let alone go on walks or trips to the dog park.
Yesterday was my first day back at work and I’m still adjusting to the reality of what’s happened and my new normal. As hard as it is, I know that I need to get back into my routine for my health and for Chuy.
It was a gorgeous fall afternoon and I decided to take a few minutes to just enjoy it with my little monster. We ran around the backyard for a bit, played in the crunchy fall leaves, and went for a walk around the block.
It’s moments like this that let the healing process begin. I honestly don’t know how I could get through this without my little Chuy. Dogs are amazing little creatures with windows into our souls, patience with our challenges, and infinite love to give to help us enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
I forgot how much the simple pleasures in life really matter. I forgot how much they are needed to get through the good and bad days. For a dog, that’s all they really want . . simple pleasures. Actually, it’s all I really want. . . a simple afternoon, in the moment, with my dog. That’s what living an irresistible life is all about.
