There are so many products out there these days for doggie fitness that seem really complicated to use. Why not just go for an old fashioned dog walk around the neighborhood to burn extra calories?! Chuy loves to go for walks and I enjoy getting out of the office and taking in the fresh air and scenery. As part of our quest to get fit in 2014, Chuy and I will be doing a lot more walking!
To truly enjoy a walk with your dog, here are five irresistible dog walking essentials, recommended by Chuy and I.
1. Wacky Paws Sport Travel Harness
The Wacky Paws Sport Travel Harness is ideal for pet parents who frequently go on long walks and hikes with their dogs.Instead of bearing the burden of having your pockets overfilled with keys, wallet, dog treats, doggie bags, etc. why not let your companion assist you. When your dog carries a backpack, it gives them a “job” and helps them focus during walks.
We take our BlissPaws bowl everywhere! It’s collapsible and clips right on your leash. I use this during our walks to give Chuy water or food when we are traveling.

3. Flashing Bone Clip On Light
If you are walking your dog during the evening or early morning hours, this is a must have! It will help other people see your dog and avoid accidents.
4. Kong Waste Bag Retractable Leash
I know it’s a controversial topic in the dog world, but I’m actually a fan of the retractable leash. I believe they are very useful as long as you use them properly. I have my eye on this leash from Kong because it serves two purposes, it’s a leash and it holds your waste bags so you don’t have to clip one on!
I LOVE my Dawggie Go Pack! I use this all the time during my walks with Chuy. I can fit my phone, ID, cash/credit card, and even poop bags all inside! The best part is that it attaches to your leash. This is perfect for when we take walks to the beach/boardwalk and want to grab a bite to eat outside!

I love how everything is color coordinated. All but the retractable lead looks great. 🙂

Hi Y’all!
We love collapsible bowls. I have a Kurgo back pack but rarely use it because we live in very rural areas and I rarely wear a leash. My Human is afraid I’ll get hung up in underbrush.
I hate retractable leashes since my Human ended up in the hospital with a concussion when a dog on a retractable leash darted into us at a rest stop one of the Interstates. She was layin’ on the ground unconscious and I couldn’t raise her. Yes, I was now loose. Just proves the importance of teaching us to stay at your side at all times.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

I love the colors too. I’m partial to blue things. I’m afraid of retractable leashes for our dogs, they’re very strong and are all over the place when we walk so it would be dangerous for our dogs but I see people with small dogs who use them all the time. Is it simply, because small dogs weigh less?

I know the retractables are a controversial topic among the pet blogging world. Personally, I’ve never had an issue with it but then again like you said maybe it’s because Chuy is small. I know I’ve heard some horror stories about them from other people. When ever we go for walks, I keep the leash locked.

Great recommendations for making walking your pet much easier! We have a harness for our Great Dane, but i didn’t know some came with little packs. Now I have to go research. Thanks!

I’m really liking the collapsible bowl. Our dog parks have built in dog water fountains but that would be handy for when we’re traveling. Stopping by from SITS Tribe Challenge.

Thanks Kendra! I use mine all the time when traveling or going for walks.

Omg I totally love that Dawggie Go Pack! All of these products are great, but that go pack would be so helpful!

Do you just put the flashlight attached to the harness? I feel like my little toy aussie’s long hair would hide it under his chin. Great tips.
