Wow. Not even sure how to begin this post. It’s so cliché to say what I’m about to say but I digress. I seriously cannot believe Chuy is ten years old. Like, where did the time go? I hate saying that but I seriously cannot wrap my head around how it’s been ten years already.
Ten years since that one pound little adorable puppy came home with us.
Part of me feels incredibly blessed to celebrate this tenth birthday with Chuy. The other part of me? Well, that part is kind of in denial.
See, the older dogs get…well, you already know what happens and I refuse to talk about that in this post!
From the moment, I brought Chuy home at 6 weeks old, he taught me to live in the moment. I was always rushing my life away; living for the weekend. Not enjoying the mundane day-to-day stuff. I occasionally find myself getting incredibly annoyed at the mundane and then I have to remind myself to snap out of it.
It’s these “little” things that are in fact the big ones. When we look back on our life with our pets those are the things we’ll miss the most.
Every single day, I feel SO grateful for Chuy. I literally spend more time with Chuy than anyone else in my life…including my daughter and husband! Chuy is always right by my side no matter what I’m doing. He is like a shadow and I joke about that but I also love it.
Chuy doesn’t seem like a ten year old Chihuahua to me. He’s still full of energy, loves to play, loves to go on adventures, and is always down to Netflix and Chill (in the most absolute literal sense!). Sure, he doesn’t have the crazy energy of a puppy. Then again, I don’t have the energy of my 23 year old self that could thrive off of less than 4 hours of sleep a night. Not these days! He is still Chuy, with a few more gray hairs.
We ALWAYS celebrate Chuy’s birthday. This year, we ordered his dog birthday cake from My Best Friends Cupcakes again just like last year. They do such a great job with their dog cakes AND they deliver right to your house. I cannot tell you how invaluable that is when it’s HOT AF and you have a two year in tow.

All I wanted was one cute pic with Chuy posing next to his cake. Well, that’s not gonna happen with this food loving dog! This is as good as it gets, y’all!
I got Chuy a small birthday cake and let him go to town licking the icing (which is yogurt). No, I didn’t let him eat the whole cake at once!
After that, I cut up a piece for him. The flavor of the cake was peanut butter banana. He scarfed that down so fast that I could barely get any good pics!
Happy 10th Birthday, Chuy! We love you so much.
