One of my favorite things to do is taking walks with Chuy. Walking your dog is beneficial for both of you for so many reasons. It helps with your physical, emotional, and mental health. As a dog mom, I’ve learned to keep a few dog walking essentials on hand to make our walks easier and fun.
1. Leash with Poop Bags
Ok, I know it’s a controversial topic among dog parents, but I’m actually a fan of the retractable leash. Not the ones with the cord but the ones with the belt. I definitely do NOT recommend the retractable cord leashes.
We’ve used this type of leash since Chuy was a puppy and have never had any issues. That said, you have to be responsible with how you use them. I use the Flexi Vario and it has a poop bag dispenser and light built in.
If you have a regular leash, you can clip a poop bag dispenser right on the leash.
2. Portable Water Bowl and/or Bottle
I love a good collapsible water bowl that you can snap on the leash. I keep this in the car at all times. That way if we’re out and about, I have a place to give Chuy water. When on a longer walk, this means I would have to also carry a water bottle. To make it easier, I love this water bottle dispenser. This keeps water and a place for your dog to drink all in one easy to carry container.
3. Phone Purse
Now, I don’t have one of these yet but it’s on my list. I used to put my phone, ID, and money inside of my Dawggie Go Pack. However, as a crazy dog mom and dog blogger, I’m always on the hunt for cute pics of Chuy! That means I either have to carry my phone in one hand or dig it out each time I want to snap a pic. Not the best idea with a dog on the move!
I’ve been looking into getting a phone purse. You can wear this across your body so it keeps your phone secure while being available in a pinch for pics! Plus, you can stick your key, money, ID, etc in the pocket. Genius!
